Since 1959, Cator Ruma has grown the way we engineer: measured, considered, and purposeful.
Today, we are proud to announce our expansion into Utah.
Why Utah, and Why Now
The Mountain West is where we do our best work. From our headquarters in Lakewood to our offices in Boise and Cheyenne, we have spent more than six decades engineering environments that heal, educate, and strengthen the communities we serve. Utah is a natural and deliberate next step.
Geographically, Utah sits at the heart of where we already are. It is the market that connects our Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho teams, and for good reason: we have long served clients in Utah who share deep ties with the institutions we partner with across all three of those states. Healthcare systems, universities, school districts, and institutions that span state lines have brought us into Utah again and again. This expansion simply makes it official. We are planting roots in a market we already know, with clients who already know us.
Beyond our existing relationships, Utah’s institutional sector is growing at a remarkable pace. Healthcare networks are expanding. Universities are investing in transformative new facilities. K-12 districts are modernizing aging infrastructure. Civic and mission-critical projects are accelerating. These are the environments we know deeply, and the ones where thoughtful Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Technology, and Commissioning engineering makes a lasting difference.
What This Means for Our Clients
For our current clients, this expansion means more capacity, more regional presence, and a team better positioned to support your projects wherever you are growing across the Mountain West. For institutions in Utah, it means access to a firm with deep technical expertise in MEP engineering, a reputation built on six decades of repeat success, backed by a collaborative approach that puts your outcomes first.
We bring the same measured, considered approach to every project regardless of geography: technical rigor, responsive collaboration, and a commitment to outcomes that perform well beyond the ribbon-cutting. That does not change. What changes is our ability to serve more communities that need it.
What This Means for Our Team and Future Partners
Growth at Cator Ruma has never been about planting a flag and moving on. When we enter a new market, we become part of it. That means showing up at the local AIA chapter, investing in engineering programs at nearby universities, supporting the communities whose schools, hospitals, and civic spaces we help build, and earning the trust of a new region the same way we earned it everywhere else: one project and one relationship at a time.
For our current team, this means new projects, new challenges, and a real path to take on greater leadership in a market that is just getting started. Engineers who want to shape something from the ground up will find that opportunity here.
For the engineers we have not yet met, this is an introduction. If you are building your career in Utah or the Mountain West and you want to work somewhere that invests in your growth, challenges you with meaningful work, and gives you a real voice in the direction of the firm, we want to know you. The partners of tomorrow are out there right now. Some of them may be reading this. We hope they reach out.
What This Means for Engineers Considering a Move
At Cator Ruma, you will not just do meaningful work. You will grow into the kind of engineer others trust to lead. We invest in our people with mentorship, real responsibility from early in their career, and a culture built on collaboration over ego. It is why so many engineers build their entire careers here, and why they stay.
This expansion creates new opportunities at every level. Whether you are early in your career and want to be part of building something new, or an experienced engineer ready to lead a market, there is a place for you here.
A Milestone Built by Our Team
None of this happens without the 110+ professionals who show up every day and hold themselves to a higher standard. This expansion is a reflection of their excellence and opens the door to even more of it.
We are proud of what we have built. We are more excited about what we will build next.
