This project was designed and constructed adjacent to and concurrent with a new adult inpatient women’s facility operated by UCHealth. As the two projects share a common corridor connection on three levels, careful coordination was required. Central utilities are provided by a shared central plant that serves the entire campus; however, dedicated emergency power was designed for this project. This project was delivered in the spirit of Integrated Project Delivery, with all of the project team members beginning the collaboration process early.
Extra value was realized by early participation of all parties. Innovative design solutions were able to be provided at the lowest cost possible due to collaboration between the design and construction team, such as:
- Domestic water, waste, and vent distribution was optimized to reduce lengths and improve fit using vertical distribution.
- Detailed envelope analysis was performed to reduce HVAC cost and reduce energy.
- Duct distribution was optimized to increase system flexibility and reduce cost.
