Michael Meints has directed Cator, Ruma & Associates since 2000. Joining our firm in 1988 as a mechanical engineer, he was promoted through the ranks and became President of the Company in just over 12 years. Today, he leads our strategic planning as Chief Executive Officer.

Mike promotes our Company's values by staying engaged in projects throughout our Client base. Many of our Clients are pleasantly surprised to find him attending their project meetings on a regular basis. He is well aware of all the projects being designed, constructed, and commissioned at any given time within the office, and is always available for guidance when needed. Drawing on his breadth of experience, Mike also acts as a mentor to all of our employees. He inspires our engineers to brainstorm new avenues to fulfill our Clients' ever-broadening needs.

Mike is a registered Professional Engineer in 21 states including Colorado. A native of Colorado, Mike graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Jim joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 1994, became a Principal in 2000, and was named President of Cator, Ruma & Associates in January 2015. He now fulfills the roles of President and Principal. Jim's experience in the industry include a diverse range of projects across a broad spectrum of industries such as healthcare, high-technology, justice and corrections, and hospitality.

Jim has the ability to inspire his associates to overcome project challenges, and his innate leadership qualities have contributed to many project successes. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado, Wyoming, and California, and a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

Geri has been with Cator, Ruma & Associates since 1992 when she joined the Accounting Department. Since that time, Geri has assumed the role of Finance Manager, overseen the growth of the accounting and human resources department, and has been instrumental in the day-to-day operations of the company. Her leadership of the aforementioned departments, as well as her contributions to the broader management and oversight of the firm's finances, operations, and personnel is integral to the Company's success.

Blake joined Cator, Ruma and Associates in 2003 and was promoted to Principal in 2014. Blake's passion for expanding his knowledge of the AEC industry gives him the ability to keep abreast of industry trends and provide invaluable input for the numerous successful projects he has been a part of in the laboratory, higher education and healthcare industries. Blake has been involved in many rural replacement hospitals, as well as large health care campuses.

Blake has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines.

Wayne joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 1996 as a mechanical engineer, and was promoted to Principal in 2007. During his time with our firm, Wayne has provided guidance to mechanical design teams on a diverse number of projects in the healthcare, higher education, laboratory, and K - 12 sectors.

Wayne's ability to work closely with maintenance staff and representatives to incorporate their ideas into the project help make the end result a facility that works for the Owner and occupants. Wayne is a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado and Wyoming. He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas - El Paso.

Industry Experience: 1999 - Present

Neal’s design experience includes energy-efficient electrical systems for aerospace clients, higher education campuses, commercial office buildings, laboratories, and healthcare facilities. He is well-versed in many system types including power distribution, emergency and standby generator systems, interior and exterior lighting, lighting controls, and uninterruptable power systems. Neal routinely provides guidance and design input on our most complex projects.

Industry Experience: 1995 - Present

Sean joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 1995 and worked his way from a graduate-entry level Engineer to a Senior Associate in the Mechanical Department. He was named Principal in 2011. He has a broad array of design experience including mechanical systems for higher education campuses, wet and dry research labs, utility and service infrastructure upgrades, and central plants.

Sean is one of the leading experts throughout the country for laboratory design. Over the course of his career, he has gained expertise in sustainable lab design, and to date has been involved in the design of over 60 lab projects, many of them Bio-Safety Level 3 (BSL-3). Sean is also one of the founding members of the I2SL Colorado Chapter and speaks at the annual I2SL Conference yearly.

Kevin joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 1998 and was promoted to Associate in 2007. In 2011, he was named Principal. Over the course of his career, he has been responsible for leading the design on several major projects in the healthcare, aerospace, laboratory, and higher education fields. His systems experience runs from basic electrical systems to highly specialized applications for projects ranging from K - 12 schools to aerospace clean rooms. Entrusted with complex projects on a regular basis, his leadership of electrical teams has been integral to our firm's success.

Kevin has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho.

Industry Experience: 2003 - Present

Josh has extensive experience helping owners build high quality, efficient buildings. Josh's responsibilities include overall commissioning management and verification that the commissioning of all projects meets the system design intents while delivering safe and efficient building operations to the owner. The combination of Josh's technical experience along with his experience in optimizing existing buildings and completing energy service projects gives him a unique perspective on the design and design review process. Josh's collaborative approach and ability to see problems before they are built bring operational expertise to the project team.

Sam joined Cator, Ruma in 2011 as a mechanical engineer. Since then, he has provided innovative design and strong leadership and guidance in his role as a senior mechanical engineer and project manager for numerous complex projects on healthcare and higher education campuses. A graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder’s Mechanical Engineering program, Meints’ strong technical background and commitment makes him an excellent resource for Cator, Ruma’s clients.

Mike began his career with Engineering Incorporated (which was acquired by Cator, Ruma in January 2016) upon graduation from the University of Idaho in 1976 as a design/project engineer. He became the Owner of Engineering Incorporated in 1991, and is now a Principal at Cator, Ruma. He continues to guide the success of the Idaho branch while and stays involved with all projects and the day-to-day operation of the office. Although his experience spans a wide-range of facility types, Mike's strongest areas of focus are in the public, healthcare, educational, correctional, and industrial sectors.

Kyle joined CRA in 2006 and since that time has been involved in an array of aspects of electrical engineering from conceptual design and putting together construction documents to performing construction administration on numerous projects. He leads the electrical branch of our Idaho office, and loves to teach others about the latest in the electrical industry. Kyle is skilled at combining a detailed mindset to provide a safe, sound, and flexible electrical system, while blending in creativity to provide the best end solution.

Industry Experience: 1988 - Present

Jerry joined Cator, Ruma and Associates in 1998 and fulfills the role of Senior Associate. Jerry stays involved with his projects from beginning to end, guiding all major electrical decisions and is always available to the Design Team and Owner as needed. He has a broad range of experience in public buildings including youth centers, justice centers, city departments, five-star hotels, and hospitals.

Jerry has a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Chuck has extensive experience in the field of mechanical design serving healthcare, educational (K-12 and higher education), commercial facilities and government related projects (Veterans Administration, Corps of Engineers, Department of Homeland Security and General Services Administration). He has been responsible for design from client initiation of projects through project close-out. His role includes project management and supervision for engineering services. Mr. Rogge has a strong background in mechanical systems design (development of construction documents from conceptual design through biddable construction documents) with expertise in energy analysis/life-cycle cost studies, field investigation/surveys of existing mechanical systems, sustainable design and construction administrative services. His experience is in both new construction and renovation of existing facilities related to HVAC, chillers, boilers, hydronic piping and steam systems, and geothermal heat pump systems.

Jeff joined Cator, Ruma and Associates in 1998 and fulfills the role of Associate. His expertise in educational, manufacturing, and office facilities make him a valuable asset to our design teams and clients. HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing systems are among some of the mechanical systems that Jeff designs on a regular basis.

Jeff has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Chuck Kaffine has been working in the information transport system business throughout the Front Range since 1992. He is certified as a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD), with project experience including healthcare, high technology facilities, telecommunication organizations, financial institutions and universities.

Justin joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 2005. He has solved design challenges in a multitude of projects across a range of industries, with a strong focus on higher education projects. He has delivered successful designs for remodels, additions, and new facilities. Justin's experience and his dedication to his project teams, combined with his enthusiasm to keep up to date with innovations in engineering make him a strong addition to any project team.

Maddie joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 2015. She has worked on complex K-12 projects that required intensive coordination of multiple systems. Maddie's meticulous attention to detail is a benefit to any project team, and her flexible mindset and ability to adapt quickly to design changes contributes to a nimble design team.

James joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 2011. His design experience is well-rounded, having been involved in the design of HVAC, plumbing, steam, and central plant mechanical systems for a number of projects, large and small, on higher education campuses and healthcare campuses. As a project manager, James' straight-forward communication style and strong leadership skills are an asset to any project team.

Adam Acree joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 2006. His design experience ranges from higher education campuses and laboratories to office buildings and steam/chilled water campus utilities, with an emphasis on energy efficiency. Adam's experience combined with his enthusiasm for innovative engineering adds value to any project team.

Jon, a Veteran Marine Corps Sergeant, has project management and design experience working on aerospace facilities, high-tech industrial buildings, healthcare facilities, and municipal and office buildings (including high-rise). He has solved design challenges in a multitude of projects across a range of industries, with a strong focus on energy strategies. Jon has delivered successful designs for remodels, additions, and new facilities. He is a trusted project manager to many of our clients and is valued for his attention to detail and responsiveness.

Industry Experience: 2009 - Present

Ryan joined Cator, Ruma in 2017 and has extensive experience in roles ranging from research to design and project management. He has designed HVAC and utility systems for complex facilities, including laboratory, higher education, and manufacturing projects. In addition, he has experience with clean rooms through class 10,000 and ISO 7 classification and cGMP manufacturing facilities.

Industry Experience: 1998 - Present

Craig is an electrical engineer with experience designing healthcare, institutional, commercial, and residential facilities. He has extensive experience in developing high-quality, creative solutions for expansion and remodel projects. He is well-organized and detail oriented. He has a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University and is currently licensed in seventeen states, including Wyoming and Colorado.

Philip joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 2015. Since then, he has completed projects across many industries, with solid experience in higher education. Philip has experience designing multiple types of electrical systems for higher education, office, and healthcare projects. Philip is an excellent team player, and his ability to integrate the goals of the project into his work is a valuable asset to any project team.

Industry Experience: 2006 - Present

Moore joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 2020 as Commissioning Operations Manager and his expertise combined with his team-oriented attitude immediately enhanced the firm’s growing commissioning department. He has a unique perspective on mechanical systems with a PE in Mechanical Engineering and hands on operational experience.  He also has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, giving him a rare holistic view of buildings along with a head start in the growing electrification of buildings. Moore holds a Master’s in Business Administration in Construction and Development, allowing him to communicate with Owners and clients in a capacity seldom seen in the Commissioning and Consulting world. Moore oversees the management and continued development of the commissioning department along with mentoring and training of staff throughout the company.

Lilly is a registered professional mechanical engineer with years of experience designing and leading a variety of projects from the early planning stage through completed construction. With much of her experience in healthcare she is well versed in creating systems to serve the longevity of a building or campus while also integrating efficient systems for the current need. Flexibility and collaboration paired with her detailed design and organization result in a well rounded creative project.

Matt Hutchison joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 2021 and has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Colorado State University. He has completed projects in several industries such as K-12 education buildings, higher education campuses, and healthcare facilities. Matt has thirteen years of experience designing multiple types of electrical systems including emergency and standby generator systems, exterior lighting, interior lighting, fire alarm systems, and secondary power distribution. Matt is an excellent team player, and his ability to integrate the goals of the project into his work is a valuable asset.

Noah Welshans Joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 2022. He has a B.S. in Business Management from Fort Hays State, and an MBA in Management from Rockhurst University. He is a well-rounded technology professional with over 20 years of hands-on experience delivering technology projects. Having spent time as an owner, designer, and integrator, Noah keeps a keen eye on all sides of a project. He is a creative thinker and analytical problem solver with demonstrated ability to manage projects from conception through implementation/completion under the pressure of fast-paced, time-sensitive environments.

Berger began at Cator, Ruma in 2012 as part of the accounting team. During her tenure with the company she spearheaded an major overhaul of the company-wide database system, which resulted in increased efficiencies across all departments. In addition to leading high-level reporting and database management, she has mentored accounting staff and has been an integral part of the financial operations of the company. She will provides continuous, relevant and timely financial and IS information, education, advice, and guidance in order to promote stability, profitability, and continuous improvement of the department and the company, and also oversees the operations and procedures of the accounting department.

Guymon joined Cator, Ruma & Associates in 2008 as a Marketing Coordinator. In 2013, she was promoted to Marketing Manager and since then has overseen daily operation of the marketing department and staff, helping to establish marketing policies and procedures. She holds a Master’s in communication, and recently earned her Certified Professional Services Marketing designation via the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS). Chris leads efforts to determine marketing objectives to meet firm wide goals and continue leadership and oversight of the day-to-day activities of the marketing department.
