Project description
This phase included the replacement of the existing East Wing and renovations to the Central Wing, adding 137,000 square feet of program space and a 204,000-square-foot parking structure with five levels, three below grade. The six-story addition includes a rooftop helipad on the 6th floor.
Program areas include a new central plant serving the entire hospital, a replacement emergency department, expanded imaging and surgery centers, clinical offices, patient care areas, physical rehabilitation spaces, and lodging for Eagle County Paramedics.
The 750-horsepower central plant, designed for future expansion to 900 horsepower, supports all steam and heating requirements, including domestic hot water, humidification, and sterile processing loads. Three boilers, deaerators, and surge tanks ensure reliable operation. Cooling is provided by three 350-ton air-cooled chillers, designed with N+1 redundancy.
Custom air handling units deliver heating, cooling, and high-efficiency filtration, with select units incorporating heat recovery for LEED certification goals. Additional design features include tempered loading docks, a high-efficiency snowmelt system with condensing boilers, and a 25,000-gallon direct-bury fuel oil tank supporting continuous operation.
This expansion enhances Vail Health’s ability to deliver advanced care within a highly efficient, flexible, and sustainable facility.
