Project description
The St. Luke’s Medical Center expansion includes a 175,000-square-foot hospital and a new 110,000-square-foot medical office building, broadening the range of care available on campus. The hospital provides eighty-seven patient beds, including family suites for new mothers and newborns, a newborn intensive care unit, and expanded women’s and children’s services. The facility also includes state-of-the-art operating rooms, additional heart services, an intensive care unit, advanced imaging, including catheterization labs and interventional radiology, and mammography.
The project also created a new home for the Mountain States Tumor Institute, bringing modern cancer care closer to campus and improving patient access. The medical office building supports a range of outpatient services and connects seamlessly with the new hospital.
A new central chilled-water and steam plant serves the hospital, the new medical office building, and the existing 120,000-square-foot medical office building on campus. The buildings use variable-air-volume rooftop air-handling units, steam-fired water heaters, and standard plumbing and drainage systems. Fire protection includes a fire pump, wet and dry risers, and a complete sprinkler system.
Cator, Ruma, and Associates provided the mechanical design for the expansion and supported ongoing commissioning as the hospital prepared to open. The project was completed in October 2017, and the hospital now serves patients in its expanded, modern facilities.
