Project description
The CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital was constructed on a 29-acre site within the Denver Federal Center as a 275-bed, full-service, 671,000-square-foot replacement hospital for the former St. Anthony Central Hospital. Designed with future expansion in mind, the project also incorporated a 147,000-square-foot orthopedic tower integrated into the main hospital, a 400-car parking structure, and an 18,000-square-foot central utility plant to support the full campus.
The central utility plant includes three 500 BHP dual-fuel Scotch Marine boilers, two 1,000-ton chillers, and two 1,000-ton cooling towers matched to chiller capacity. Electrical infrastructure consists of a double-ended 4,000-amp, 480/277V switchgear lineup with a main–tie–main configuration and two 2,500 kVA transformers. Emergency power is supplied by two 2,500 kW generators (rated at 2,000 kW at the site’s elevation), with provisions for two additional generators. Fuel is stored in both day tanks and below-grade tanks, providing a 72-hour supply of #2 diesel.
The hospital accommodates a wide range of critical care and support services, including operating suites, intensive care, trauma rooms, nurseries, imaging suites (such as MRI, CT, linear accelerators, and related radiology equipment), information technology equipment rooms, an emergency department, pharmacy, kitchen and dining services, and a helipad.
To accommodate anticipated growth, the facility was designed with structural and infrastructure provisions for two additional floors and a future cardiac tower of approximately 200,000 square feet.
