Case Study :
Colorado College – El Pomar Athletic Facility

100,000ft²

The project included the construction of a new fitness center addition, a new administrative addition, and the renovation of the existing 1970 facility, which remained occupied throughout construction.

The two-level fitness addition features a gymnasium, strength and cardio training areas, yoga spaces, and locker room facilities. The three-level administrative addition provides new office space for staff and operations. Existing spaces, including varsity and auxiliary gymnasiums, weight-training areas, and locker facilities, were expanded and renovated to enhance functionality and capacity.

Cooling was added to the original facility as part of this project, as chilled water was extended from the campus central utility plant and distributed throughout the building. The facility is heated via high-temperature hot water supplied from the central plant. The new additions are served by variable-volume air-handling units (AHUs) designed for efficiency and comfort. The unit serving the fitness center includes energy recovery, which was essential to meet the high ventilation airflow requirements.
